80 Years as a Scout
In 1929 a young Charles Narwold joined a Boy Scout Troop
in Ohio. 80 years later he is still involved in Boy Scouting at
Troop 21, sponsored by the Wauwatosa Avenue United
Methodist Church, Wauwatosa, WI. Chuck recently
completed his 80th Anniversary as a member of the Boy
Scouts of America. Over those 80 years, Chuck has
experienced many changes in Scouting as it changes with
the times.
Chuck completed his Eagle Scout award in 1936 and then
moved to Wauwatosa in 1939, with his family. In 80 years
of very active participation, there are few volunteer jobs in
Scouting that Chuck has not performed. He has been an
Assistant Scoutmaster in numerous Troops, while serving
in the Armed Forces; Scoutmaster of Troop 21, adult staff
for Camp Indian Mound Reservation 1946-1950 and camp
Program Director in 1947 and 1948, and State Fair Camp
Ammon Director in 1949. Chuck has remained active in
Troop 21 since arriving in Wauwatosa in 1939. Chuck has
completed his Wood Badge in 1976, presented with the
District Award of Merit in 1976, the Silver Beaver award in
1977.
Troop 21 has presented 144 Eagle Scout awards in its
history, the first presented in 1934. Chuck has met every
one of those 144 Eagle Scouts! Chuck has been active in
many other community activities, including Girl Scouts,
YMCA Indian Guides, delivering meals-on-wheels, and has
been an usher for the Wauwatosa Avenue United
Methodist Church since 1950.
Chuck continued to live in Wauwatosa until he passed away on August 16, 2010.
